GO PUJA , Toni Meneguzzo, Exhibition

The passion for travelling has always deeply inspired the work of Toni Meneguzzo, and some of his pictures, taken in many parts of the world, are already well known. During a recent trip to India, the lens of his camera, free from any kind of reporting duty, came across the Holy Cow

The Holy Cow, a peculiar icon of Hindu religion, in these shots is depicted in the farthest possible way from the image handed down by the Western world. With their absent-minded expression, they return our glance, completely unaware of being the object of our admiration. Their meek eyes, shiny and a little lost, tell us they have already endured a lot, yet that they are still open to our oddities and impositions, but also, for this reason, that they deserve that sacred aura that India has bestowed on them. And if all of this were not enough, here goes the artist's intervention, aiming at modifying our perception through a clear digital manipulation of his shots. Meneguzzo moves the portraits away from their original landscape. Placed against a white backdrop, aseptic and candid as the linen in a flag, once the memory of their original setting is taken away, the Holy Cows lose a great deal of their folkloristic aspect.
